Hallmarks of the loft style

Let’s start with the basics. What characteristic features define industrial-style design? First: large, open space. Because the loft originates from old factory halls, interiors should be as spacious as possible. Therefore, partition walls are reduced to the necessary minimum, and individual living zones are separated using, for example, shelving, rugs or lighting. Another hallmark is large windows that let in a significant amount of natural light. Originally they were meant to provide workers with access to daylight and good visibility for as long as possible during work. Nowadays they make apartments arranged in post-industrial interiors, despite the raw decor, feel lighter. The same function is served by high ceilings – they increase the apartment’s space vertically.

What should the color scheme look like in a loft arrangement? The color palette used by the industrial style is mainly black and white and the whole range of grays. Industrial also uses brick red and copper. As you can see, the color palette is quite limited, but it gives great design possibilities. There are many ways today to bring an industrial style even into a small apartment bathroom. The most important thing is choosing the right materials. Choose tiles that imitate unplastered, bare walls and simple, geometric sanitary ware. Don’t put partition walls in the bathroom; opt for glazing instead. Let’s start from the beginning, that is with bathroom tiles. If we are arranging a loft bathroom, it’s worth choosing tiles that imitate concrete or slabs made of architectural concrete. Be sure to check whether the slabs have been impregnated beforehand so that the material does not absorb moisture from the environment. There are many models of concrete tiles on the market, available in a wide palette of shades: from light to dark gray. Choose the color following a simple rule: lighter shades are better for a small bathroom. For a large area you can allow more freedom. Gray, concrete tiles can be laid on both walls and floors.

A good idea to break up a monochromatic arrangement is to diversify the wall covering with tiles imitating wood. You can place them in the shower cabin or above the sink.
